Tideford, history and present-day details
Tideford lies in the upper reaches of the river Tiddy, giving the name to the ford on the Tiddy – Tideford. The bridge over the Tiddy dates from the 14th century.
The busy A38 cuts right through Tideford, splitting the village in half. It has a cosy and sometimes lively pub, the Rod and Line, to the north and a fine butchers to the south.
Tideford has strong connections and is within the parish of St Germans.

This lovely 19th century coach house is set on the edge of Dartmoor, close to historic Tavistock and the Tamar Valley. The valley is of outstanding natural beauty, yet only 15 miles from Plymouth. The Coach House was built on a site, which was originally an Anglo Saxon settlement in 850 AD. It was built by The Duke of Bedford in 1857 to his own design as part of a model farm. It was sold in 1988 and converted to a 3-star hotel. The hotel regrets that it cannot accommodate children under the age of 5 years old.
