Just 2 miles (3.2 km) from York's city centre, the late 17th-century Middlethorpe Hall has its own spa and 20 acres of private gardens, ideal for a peaceful rural retreat in York. Built in 1699, Middlethorpe Hall was once the home of the famous diarist, Lady Mary Wortley Montague. An original William III country house, the hall has been fully restored and is now carefully decorated with antiques and fine pictures. The gardens and parkland have also been restored and include a white garden, a walled garden, a small lake and some beautiful trees. Now part of the National Trust, all profits of the hotel are donated to the charity.
