Llanelli, or Church of Elli in English, is a beautiful town in the county of Carmarthenshire in Wales. Located between Swansea and the county town of Carmarthen, Llanelli once had the largest population of Welsh or Celtic speaking residents.

The town was built upon its coal and tin mining heritage from the 1700s up to the 1970s, when the mining industry started to decline; as did the economy in the area.

Today, Llanelli is home to many commuters who seek work in the larger towns and cities in the area; especially Swansea, which is just 16 miles away.

The Scarlets are the townís rugby union team and the West Wales Sharks are its rugby league team. As with many Welsh towns, rugby is its fine and proud passion.

The heavy industrial past has now given way to leisure and tourism. You will find some breathtaking coastline paths and you can stroll in the beautiful Pembrey Country Park.

The people of Llanelli are sometimes known as Turks. This may be a connection to the Turkish Navy, who stopped off at Llanelli on their way to far-away places.
