Barrow is located at the tip of a peninsula stretching out into Morecambe bay in Cumbria. Its history dates back to the 12th century Abbey, Furness, giving rise to the name Barrow-in-Furness.

In the mid 1800s the railway provided the transportation to shift iron ore and slate from this area all over the country. Later Barrow became a world-class shipbuilding community. Today there is a museum that captures the spirit of Barrow's past.

In 1864, a lifeboat station was built and remains an important RNLI asset.
