Trowbridge is the County Town of Wiltshire and is based on the western side of the County near the borders with Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset. Trowbridge has a long history of textile industry for which it was known as the \"Manchester of the West\" with over 2,000 factories (mainly wool). The Kennet and Avon canal runs through the town as does the River Biss. The name may come from the nearby hamlet of Trowle however some are inclined to believe that the name comes from treow-brycg meaning Tree Bridge. Although not the most attractive of towns it is surrounded by the most beautiful countryside with several projects planned to gentrify the town, hopefully it will go from strength to strength. A mainline train service runs to Bath, Bristol and Cardiff in one direction and to Southampton, Portsmouth and Brighton the other way. Trowbridge hit the BBC National and Regional news in December 2011 for a perfume (which I designed!) called L\'Eau de Trow, the scent of which I based on the history and surroundings - it was a scent-sation (sorry!)
