Moving In The Write Direction

By Serene Park
2nd October, 2011

As a new writer I thought I would offer some advice to others also in the Ďbeginners classí Ė get moving. I donít mean marathons and triathlons I mean furniture moving (but please donít do it because I said so, as in a nation of Health and Safety madness I canít afford the law suits for back injuries or finger nails breaking). When starting out I found myself ready to produce so many novels and features that my name would be dominating the shelves, my ideas initially seemed endless, but then the wall hit. After many attempts I felt stuck, fed up and generally frustrated and decided to tidy my office and move some bits and pieces and then it came. First it was the bird that flew past the window sending me into a day dream about the things they must witness and my imagination begun. When the window failed me a few months later I moved again and the dent in the wall in front of me got me wondering as to the history behind it; who did it and why? Obviously I havenít written a whodunit about a dent in the wall with the crime been solved by a blackbird but I am back to that place where ideas donít see me and take the first left in the opposite direction! So if that last chapter has failed to write itself again grab your desk, chair and computer and get moving.
