Looe, history and present-day details...
Looe is a major tourist and fishing town in SE Cornwall. It conjures up the essence of Cornwall with its historic buildings and scenery to die for.
Locals tend to refer to the town as East or West Looe, which were in fact two towns originally, each with its own seat at parliament. There has been a bridge between East and West Looe from the 1650s. The present bridge replaced the old during the mid 19th century.
Looe was and still is a market town, harvesting the seas and selling the produce from East Looe. Today, Looe attracts thousands of visitors and is part of Cornwall's tourist industry and playing a large part in Cornwall's fragile economy.
