Leeds, history and present-day details...

It is said that Leeds dates back to the 7th century. Today, the ruins of Kirkstall Abbey dates Leeds in the mid 12th century and stands as a stark reminder of King Henry VIII and his regime of Dissolution in the 1500s.

Leeds really owes its modern day presence and wealth to the industrial revolution through the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Leeds Liverpool Canal was once the main means of transporting textile goods out of Leeds to its main trading locations in Africa and America.

There is plenty of examples of historical Leeds, especially through the industrious Victorian era. The museums are well worth visiting and speak volumes over books for an in-sight of life back in those industrious, but dangerous times.

Today, like many cities, Leeds is a complex maze of both new and old and offers dwellers and visitors entertainment, leisure, shops and more shops. There are a vast array of places to stay from guest houses to grand hotels.
